Avenue Name on Route to Our University Changed to Prof. Dr. Atakan Yalçın Avenue

Following the loss of our esteemed faculty member Prof. Atakan Yalçın in the tragic hotel fire in Bolu Kartalkaya in January 2025, the name of Gökkaya Avenue, which is located on the route of our university in our district, was changed to “Prof. Dr. Atakan Yalçın Avenue” with the recognition of Çekmeköy Municipality to keep the memory of Prof. Atakan Yalçın alive. Çekmeköy Municipality organized an opening ceremony on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, where the esteemed family and loved ones of our late professor joined the members of the Özyeğin University community.

The ceremony started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, followed by the speech of Yaprak Yeşilada Yalçın, the wife of our esteemed academic Prof. Atakan Yalçın. Özyeğin University President Prof. Barış Tan gave a meaningful speech about the academic and humanitarian legacy of Prof. Atakan Yalçın. Taking the floor after Prof. Tan, Mr. Orhan Çerkez, Mayor of Çekmeköy, underlined that Atakan Yalçın’s legacy will always remain in the hearts by giving the street named after him in the Çekmeköy district. Mr. Resul Çelik, District Governor of Çekmeköy, also shared his thoughts that the meaningful street name change will contribute to the social and cultural development of the region.

Upon the speeches, “Prof. Dr. Atakan Yalçın Avenue” was officially announced with the ribbon-cutting.
